Through hypnosis this project explores an altered state of consciousness similar to daydreaming. Every detail in these portraits has been thoroughly considered and the images take on the appearance of a fashion story, however focus is always on the moment, a place between consciousness and sleep.

This project moves away from the studio in favour of a far more instinctive photographic approach. Juxtaposing subject next to still life an importance is placed on the emotional and narrative content of the images, taking inspiration from a fragmented relationship portrayed in Chris Markers film, 'La Jetee'. Similarly located within a museum environment, a subject appears absorbed and lost in thought, caught in a space where time never stops building.

Seeing is believing (Part II)

This project explores a transitory area on the eastern circumference of London, a unique space that merges public and private boundaries with rural and city limits. Within its margins is a community juxtaposed by a suburban environment, the surroundings harboring an underlying tension. An alternative history of the area uncovers this recurring theme as well as underground activities and a darker past. My interest here is in combining studio with location and blurring the boundaries so its impossible to separate the two, utilizing a technical and cinematic approach that encroaches on the seductive, clean aesthetic of advertising. I have literally built these photos, taking inspiration from the filmic use of sets, backdrops and lighting, in an attempt to distort ones sense of reality. This series uses carefully selected sections of landscape as descriptive tools for an imagined whole, my aim being to take the essence of the area, distill its character and then reconstruct a personal understanding of the scene.

This project adopts a voyeuristic style that explores seemingly personal and insignificant events in a constructive and controlled manner. Focus is cast on contemplative and melancholy moments that retain a strong sense of emotion, reworking these small gestures around ideas of simulation and replication. Great importance is placed upon the casting of characters that are specifically chosen for their presence, and through the integration of narrative elements personalities are subtly tweaked. Much reference is derived from painting with an importance placed on body language, in particular the use of posture not pose to bring greater reality to these representations.
